Nagarjun hill day hiking tour is one of the popular day tours around the valley of Kathmandu. Nagarjun hill, also called Jamacho is famous for a Buddhist stupa (2128m) at the top of the hill. Apart from that the sacred caves dug on the hill the beautiful sceneries play an important role for the attraction of the visitors. It is believed that the holy saint named Nagarjuna meditated and worshipped Swayambhunath inside one of the caves on the hill. The cave is also called ‘Laxmi Gufa’ and Nagarjun hill is also described as ‘Vindya Mountain’ in some literatures.
The hike to Nagarjun hill commence from Balaju via the dense forest of Shivapuri National Park. The 2-3 hours hike on foot through the jungle decorated with trees and birds lead us to the Buddhist pilgrimage site on the top of the hill. One can view many holy caves and can have the spectacular sight of Kathmandu valley surrounded with beautiful mountain ranges like Ganesh Himal, Manaslu, Dorji Lakpa and Langtang Range from the view tower of Nagarjun hill. The pathway to the Nagarjun hill goes through the beautiful Rani Ban (Queen’s Forest) which is the part of Shivapuri National Park. After the exploration of spiritual Nagarjun Meditating cave and hiking around the stupa on the top of the Nagarjun hill we proceed back to Kathmandu through the same path.

Detail Itinerary
Day 01Nagarjun Hill Hiking.Pick up from hotel and drive towards Balaju. We commence our hike from Balaju towards Shivapuri National Park and ascend upward headed for the top of the Nagarjun hill. The 3-4 hour walk through the dense forest will lead us to the Buddhist stupa on top of the hill. After exploring the Nagarjuna meditating cave, Buddhist pilgrimage site, glancing the Kathmandu valley and the panoramic mountain range we return back towards Kathmandu. After the exploration of forest and birds on our way back, we will pick you up from Balaju and drop to your hotel.
